Valley Karate has been dedicated to providing quality martial arts training in the art of Tang Soo Do to children and adults in Shelton and the surrounding areas since 1985. Valley Karate was originally established as West Haven Academy of Karate under Grandmaster Charles Ferraro in 1985. It has been owned and operated by Master James Bergers since 2005. Valley Karate is certified through the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Association, Inc., under the direction of Grandmaster Charles Ferraro.
Master Bergers is a certified 5th degree black belt and master instructor. He has studied martial arts for more than 22 years, dedicating himself to the Tang Soo Do style. He has won numerous national and international championship titles and is a member of the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Hall of Fame.
Master Bergers is assisted by a well-trained, experienced staff which includes two certified Master instructors as well as a team of black belt instructors. Valley Karate is a large facility with a spacious dojang, a viewing area for parents, separate changing rooms for men and women, and pro shop.
At Valley Karate, we place a strong emphasis on discipline, respect, and high moral code as well as developing students mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.

KICKS FOR CANCER
Valley Karate is an active supporter of the American Cancer Society and our local Relay for Life event in Shelton, CT. Each year, Valley Karate sponsors Kicks for Cancer, a kick-a-thon in which students raise money through sponsors for cancer research. Thanks to our students and sponsors, thousands of dollars have been donated through this event. The kick-a-thon event includes 1000 kicks demonstrated by the students, professional photographs and fun activities for the kids.
