Now, by adding specific lessons on the importance of nutrition and exercise to our classes, we are reinforcing the same information that parents and school teachers are teaching and thus, truly becoming a team player combating childhood obesity. The topics covered are by no means the only nutrition topics that could be taught; however, they are the most critical. As a general rule, everyone can benefit from increasing their water intake, eating more vegetables, decreasing junk food consumption, and exercising daily. We won’t be discussing any type of dieting in this unit. Studies show that many children placed on “diets” or referred to by adults as “fat” grow up to have eating disorders. Instead, we recommend following the advice given and allowing them to grow out of that phase naturally.
